Principal's Spring Term Update
Monday 04 January 2021
15th January 2021
I hope that your child has enjoyed and made good progress in their first full week of remote learning.
In school this week, whilst supervising our amazing Community Classroom pupils, I have been delighted to see excellent live lessons being taught and pupils showing endeavour, working hard and quickly adjusting to the new arrangements.
Attendance to remote schooling has been very high and in line or above usual attendance to school. We are grateful to Ark who have provided us with a consignment of Chromebooks that have allowed us to support families by providing devices, where needed. It is essential that you make contact as soon as possible if there are any reasons why your child may not be able to attend a lesson. Please let the school know if you need support with devices or internet access for remote schooling.
Updates on life at School
There are several ways that we are complementing our remote live lessons with provision to ensure your child’s wellbeing. The weekly house competitions are challenging pupils to think creatively and engage with current issues, whilst retaining a vital sense of school community while pupils are learning remotely. This is further supplemented by the virtual collage space, accessible through the wellbeing tab. Here pupils can come together as a community to share what they are thankful for and their hopes and wishes for the next school term.
This week pupils have been able to access mindfulness content, building a ‘Mindfulness Toolkit’ to better enable them to manage any stresses and worries.
Teachers have put together a Remote Learning Resources & Support Sheet for pupils. Please find a copy attached accompanying this letter.
Supporting our community
We want to be here to support our community at this time. The Local Authority have asked us to share the full list of Croydon Food Banks with families. In addition, we are sharing a link to Croydon Discretionary Support application form for families who wish to request support from Croydon, including for assistance with fuel bills.
In addition to continuing to send vouchers to those families with children receiving free school meals, the school intends to source some food staples to support families at this time. This would be in addition to vouchers. Please email email@example.com in confidence should this be helpful to you.
Every family should have received a weekly individual wellbeing phone call this week. If you have any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns about your child, 6 Morland Road Croydon London CR0 6NA Principal: Peter Shaw E: firstname.lastname@example.org T: +44 020 3443 9000 www.arkblake.org Twitter: @ArkBlake
please share it during this call or contact me or a member of my safeguarding team through email@example.com. We will get in touch to discuss possibilities for support.
Remote Learning Survey
We would be very grateful if parents and carers could complete our ABA Remote Learning Survey online. It is very important that we have your feedback on our remote learning provision so we can resolve any difficulties and provide excellent remote learning. We will be asking for pupils’ feedback soon.
In addition, please continue to encourage your child to be socially responsible. Pupils should not be out mixing in the community and with the exceptions of exercise or shopping for essential items, should not be leaving the family home.
I want to close with an excerpt from a pupil’s piece of writing on the theme of Community for the House competition this week. It meant a lot to the Ark Blake staff to read this.
I feel inspired by the Ark Blake community that I am a part of, simply because watching my peers and teachers show all five values and show respect, kindness and care to everyone and each other, inspires me to seize my greatness and try to show all five values along the way. Teachers tell me that I shouldn’t give up and even if I make mistakes along the way I won’t stop trying... I’m sure that after you have finished reading this story you could now tell that I am proud and happy to be a part of the Ark Blake community.
Thank you for all your support and commitment to our school. I wish you and your family a safe and relaxing weekend.
