Mr Brown’s Year 8 Geography class have been studying the topic of Food & Famine as part of the Geography curriculum. The unit focuses on introducing students to the concept of food security and its defining factors. Students have explored global disparities using data on rainfall, soil fertility and other environmental factors, identifying how these contribute to food insecurity. Most importantly, the unit delves into the role of conflict as the leading factor disrupting access to food worldwide. Students have investigated potential solutions, analysing strategies to address these challenges and secure a future free of hunger.
This topic has not only enhanced students’ understanding of global human geography but has also inspired them to think critically about its local implications. Our students hope to become active citizens, engaging with real-world issues and contributing to their community’s ongoing conversations and so they wrote individual letters to our local MP, Natasha Irons.
On Wednesday, Ms Irons raised our students’ valuable points in the House of Commons and requested that the Government make time to debate this important issue.
Well done to class 8YGG2!
