On Thursday 16th and Friday 17th January 2025, over 100 Year 10 students participated in the prestigious Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge Workshop, led by professional trainers from The Speakers Trust. The students had the opportunity to develop and showcase their public speaking skills through a one-minute speech on a topic of their choice, which they created and delivered by participating in a range of confidence-building activities throughout the day. The sessions were a true test of confidence, creativity and communication for our students.
The guest trainers provided valuable tips on structuring speeches, improving vocal delivery and managing nerves in front of an audience. One of the guest trainers presented a particularly insightful quote for the students to focus on, "if you can stand up in a room full of people and introduce yourself, you've won half of the battle to making a speech in front of an audience". This powerful message resonated with the students, reminding them that the first step in any speech is believing in their ability to stand tall and speak with confidence.
The Speak Out Challenge proved to be an empowering experience for the Year 10 students, helping them gain essential life skills and boosting self-assurance. Congratulations to all who participated - your bravery, determination and progress throughout the day was incredible and has set the stage for even greater accomplishments ahead!
A special well done to the students who were nominated by the trainers to prepare for the Ark Blake Assembly Speak Out Final after half term. These students will compete against one another for the opportunity to represent Ark Blake Academy at the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge Regional Final on 27th March at Riddlesdown Collegiate.
